This is a perfect book for a young school child who may be experiencing some emotional roller coaster feelings. Any number of reasons can trigger these weak emotional tides. Sometimes, the child is traumatized by something; othertimes, the child may be feeling insecure at home or at school. Without making the situation worse, simple lessons of every day experiences can be shared so as to allow the child to navigate his or her own way through the problem. The author covers important concepts such as "trust", "respect", "trustworthiness", "politeness", "loyalty", "patience","regret", "forgiveness", and "love", in the form of manners; we know that the heart is fragile and the child needs to see some kind of concrete illustration of how to handle difficult situations. Once the book is read, the child will be able to use it as a temporary resource when some uncomfortable feeling creeps in. The clever dialogue in explaining the term will allow the child to sort out the solution in a way to make it more manageable. It's not really a cookie recipe book; it's a metaphor for handling difficult situations with cookie-size portions of care.
Author describes lessons that can be learned about cookies--from mixing to baking to sharing. Not only are the applications adorable, they are described with excellent new words and their definitions. The book has value as building character, empathy, and vocabulary.P.S. The illustrations are delightful and add so much to our enjoyment. I love it that I can be as happy reading it to my grandchildren as they are in listening.
2nd time buying this book for my 3yr old. We gave the first one to a friend of ours to help, and we had to order another as our guy missed it so much. Wonderful, easy, lessons ♡ Plus, who doesn't love cookies?!
This is a great book. Each page or page spread has one word that is explained (sometimes with words, sometimes with significant help from the illustrations) in terms of cookies: Patience is waiting for the cookies to finish baking. Compassion is [sharing my cookie because I see yours fell to the floor.] (I bracketed that one because the picture tells more of the story than the text does.)Each concept is simple, sweet, and something important that you really want your child to understand. This format is so effective. My daughter loves this book.
Another great find for my grandniece's library. Her mother has encouraged all family members that she wants her daughter to be surrounded with educational toys and books, things that will teach lessons and inspire imagination and creativity. The books that I have found on Amazon have been of good quality in both the story line and illustrations. Both my grandniece and her mother were very happy with this gift.
This has been my "go to" book for all baby showers for the past 10 years. I've gifted out so many copies. All the "cookie" books are brilliant and they "covertly" sharpen children's vocabulary by using the cookie-making theme in a truly delightful and understandable way.
I Read this today to my "Joy School" class (5 pre-schoolers). They were enchanted by the illustrations: "Is that horse wearing CLOTHES?! . . . The lamb has clothes too!" I was surprised to see that they also responded to and grasped the more advanced concepts like "fairness" and "respect."I've also read this to my teens when I felt we all needed a brush up on basic kindness. We all love it. Delightful drawings and rich concepts for human interaction explained deftly so that young children understand and older children are entertained. Really, one of my favorite children's books ever. This applies to all the Cookie books.
Rosenthal writes the BEST children's books! Started buying them for our grandchildren and have continued to give them as gifts. Our oldest grandson is now 21 and I still see evidence of the good character qualities the Rosenthal books taught him. The illustrations are so sweet and beautiful and the life lessons are taught in such a way they seem like a sweet story rather than a "lesson". Love these books. Search Amazon and collect them all.
